From July 6 to 7, 2009, Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Wu Dawei exchanged views in Washington with the U.S. side on the Korean Peninsula nuclear issue and the situation in Northeast Asia. U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton met with Wu and his delegation. The two sides expressed concern over the situation in Northeast Asia. They said all parties concerned should exert calmness and restraint and refrain from taking any actions that might further escalate the tension so as to maintain peace and stability of Northeast Asia. Both sides agreed to remain committed to the goal of denuclearization of the Peninsula and to resolving relevant issues in a peaceful way through dialogue and consultation. They also agreed while implementing in real earnest relevant resolutions of the UN Security Council, all parties concerned should enhance communication and coordination to resume the six-party talks at an early date. |
